How and when did you first cross paths with GreenLight Clinical? What is the GreenLight Clinical journey like so far?
It started in 2018 with a phone call from Thailand when I was in Boston for work at the time. It was Soi Gajasvasti whom I used to work with, now the Laboratory Manager at GreenLight Clinical.
Soi was very enthusiastic about her new employment at GreenLight Clinical, she couldn’t be more excited about GreenLight’s plan on building their first central laboratory. I was equally excited having learnt about their plan, while furthermore, my name was put forward to Dr Sasi Suda, the CEO of GreenLight Clinical as the person leading the new lab build. Later Soi, Dr Sasi Suda and I connected via phone the same day to set plans in motion.
Originally, I planned to spend my birthday in Boston after completing my work trip. After the phone call with GreenLight Clinical, I decided to fly back to Bangkok the very next day. Though I spent my birthday on the plane, it was a serendipitous moment unfolding.
The meeting with Dr Sasi Suda and Soi in person went smoothly. Having understood GreenLight Clinical’s goals, I admired Dr Sasi Suda’s determination and decided to assist in establishing GreenLight Clinical’s first lab in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Sasi Suda is a person full of inspiration, I am so proud to have the opportunity to work with her and the team. We formed a plan to build GreenLight Clinical’s first central laboratory. This construct of developing a virtual lab environment was unique and industry-leading with best in class instruments.
Aside from working with GreenLight Clinical, how do you distribute your time across other organisations?
I am a part-time consultant for National Blood Centre and Thai Red Cross. I also spend some of my time with the Academic Society as the Scientific Chair for Thai Society of Clinical Pathology (TSCP). I also perform surveyor roles for the Royal College of Pathologist of Thailand (RCPT) and surveyor of ISO 15189 & 15190 for Ministry of Public Health (MOPH).
In addition, I am an invited lecturer for the Department of Lab Med, Faculty of Med, Chulalongkorn University. Finally, I still give lectures for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and other local and international organisations.
The variety of my work overlaps, which sees mutual benefits between the different areas. My passion for laboratory work is realised via my extensive resources and networks accrued over the years have enabled me to grasp the opportunity.
What are you learning or finding challenging in your role right now?
Aside from ticking all the boxes to meet ISO accreditation, it would be the global pandemic that we are all fighting now. During the lockdown period, we had limited access to resources, meaning the process of obtaining ISO15189 was prolonged.
Although challenging, I saw this as an opportunity for GreenLight Clinical Laboratories to be known as a global central lab. Throughout all the hurdles, I had the team’s full support, which rewarded us with ISO15189 accreditation.
I am proud that we have achieved this milestone during the pandemic. It demonstrated the team’s diligence and determination. Our lab is now fully operational, and open for all clinical trial laboratory work, including safety testing, special analysis, and PK/PD/BA and BE work.
With GreenLight Clinical’s global central laboratories now in operation, how does this advantage differentiate GreenLight Clinical from its competitors?
We understand the proximity of the lab plays a critical role when it comes to sample transportation. With our central laboratories situated in the centre of Bangkok and Sydney, our labs can be easily accessed to support global clinical trials.
GreenLight Clinical’s team has extensive experience in clinical research and laboratory work. Our labs are standardised in the equipment used and testing methodologies to deliver accurate and consistent results across all regions.
With your numerous achievements in your career to date, which is the most significant towards improving clinical research?
I would like to think all my work to date has improved clinical research in some way or another.
I am proud to be a member of the GreenLight family. As a younger global CRO with its own central laboratories means we are flexible and determined to deliver the best quality work for our sponsors.
Accuracy and consistency in testing results are imperative quality for clinical research. I am pleased to see the team I work with share the same passion, as well as exhibiting the same high level of ethics needed in clinical research.
