Testing that tells you more than just test negative/positive…
At the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak, the transition to work-from-home proved challenging. However, the transition back to the workplace may be even more challenging.
While there is a strong desire to resume a pre-COVID lifestyle as soon as possible, we need to balance saving lives with saving livelihoods.
Defeating COVID-19 requires a communal effort. Physical distancing has proved effective but is no substitute for an effective, readily available vaccination.
Tests for COVID-19 aim to detect the causative virus, SARS-CoV-2, or an immune response to SARS-CoV-2. Available evidence mainly comes from symptomatic patients. However, their clinical role in detecting asymptomatic carriers is unclear.
The tests we conduct at GreenLight Clinical Laboratories can detect the antibodies your immune system produces to fight off infection. Some of these antibodies can stay in your blood for months or even years. It will be most useful in allowing us to see the true scale of the COVID-19 epidemic. We will be able to see how many people have had the virus to help us understand how much immunity we have as a community. The testing result can be ready for you in just 24 hours. There is minimal waiting to get the test done as we can cater according to your calendar. Most importantly, the testing is performed within GreenLight Clinical’s own laboratories, we can ensure the results are accurate and reliable.
The government is encouraging broader testing for COVID-19 is an effort to help prevent the community spread. Be proactive and stay on top of your well-being.
The two main types of SARS-CoV-2 tests we provide are:
SARS-CoV-2 Antigen test – to detect viral proteins of SARS-CoV-2 and Serology tests – to detect IgM and/or IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.
Serology antibody tests
The serology tests are intended to detect IgG and/or IgM antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 from venous blood samples. There is a window period between virus infection and the production of IgM and IgG antibodies, and the sensitivity and specificity of IgM/IgG antibody tests early in SARS-CoV-2 infection is not well characterised. Antibodies can take up to two weeks or more to become detectable after infection with SARS-CoV-2. The antibody test takes up to 24 hours for the result to be ready.
The antigen test detects intended for the qualitative detection of a specific antigen of SARS-CoV-2 from nasal and throat samples. The tests are intended to aid in the early diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection and assists in the initial screening of individuals. This test would provide a qualitative ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer in the presence of the pathogen. The antigen test takes only 15 minutes for the result to be ready.
