Congratulations to Dr Meidong Zhu, GreenLight Clinical’s Senior Medical Adviser, on receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award from OCAVER – The Overseas Chinese Association for Vision and Eye Research – an international professional organisation whose members with an interest or competence in ophthalmic investigation and vision research reside outside China.

The award, which honours outstanding achievement in vision research and clinical service, teaching, and leadership in the basic and/or clinical sciences as applied to ophthalmology or visual science with recognised contribution to the promotion of collaboration of eye and vision researchers between China and other countries was presented at ARVO 2019.

Dr Meidong Zhu has been devoted to clinical ophthalmology, ocular scientific research and teaching, in Australia, China and other countries since her graduation. Her special interests are in retinal and fundus disease, corneal transplantation and eye banking. She has led or participated in more than 90 clinical trials and research projects at all levels and is widely published with 60 journal articles. Dr Zhu has also written and edited books including “Macular Degeneration”, “Practical Technology in Modern Eye Bank” and “Eye and Vision Research Developments: Eye Disease Associated with Sleep Disorders”.

As well as working as GreenLight’s Senior Medical Advisor, Dr Zhu also works as a Senior Hospital Scientist in Lions New South Wales Eye Bank, New South Wales Tissue Bank and Australian Ocular Biobank in Sydney, Australia. As an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, she supervises students in Master of Medicine, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy studies in the School of Medicine. Dr Zhu is also an Honorary Professor of the First Clinical Medical College, Nanjing Medical University, Medical Advisor in Jiangsu Province Eye Bank, Specialty Consultant in Aier Eye Hospital Group Co. Ltd and Board Member of the Overseas Chinese Association for Visual and Eye Research (OCAVER).
